Yeshiva Gedolah Bais Yisroel
About the Yeshiva
Rabbi Avigdor Miller zt"l was a product of Slobodka, one of the foremost yeshivos of pre-war Europe, where there was an exceptional stress on the study of Mussar. He envisioned transplanting the Mussar style of learning to America. His dream came true in 1983 with the opening of Yeshiva Gedolah Bais Yisroel (together with his son, yblc"t, Rabbi Shmuel Miller shlita).
Founded in Brooklyn, Yeshiva Gedolah Bais Yisroel (YGBY) later expanded to Bayswater, NY, and in 2010 relocated to Lakewood, NJ.
The Rosh Yeshiva, Rabbi Shmuel Miller, is a talmid of Rabbi Aharon Kotler. Accordingly, YGBY has taken its place among the major yeshivos of the world. With its strong emphasis on Mussar, it produces bochurim who are well-rounded in all areas of Torah.
In 2011, the Yeshiva purchased an 8-acre lot in Lakewood where a new, state-of-the-art building will be constructed. It will house the world’s largest collection of Rabbi Avigdor Miller’s texts and audio recordings.
